When Building a Habit, It Helps to Remember You’re Not a Dog

Whenever I try to build a new habit, I often have to battle with “self-discipline”.

However, by default, that self-discipline is authoritarian. It punishes me with mean words whenever I fail to follow through. Much like the classic way of dog training — punishment awaits for any unwanted behaviour.
